Funny to see you people still discussing Karate vs MMA when we have a Karate champion in the UFC LHW division and plenty others in MMA.

@ganuk Well sure, but all in all, one can still achieve that level of mastery with traditional martial arts, they just need to have a real teacher. And they need to train hard like they used to back then. Nowadays, since people are busy, they 'don't have time' to train like that. But some people who really care about the art make time. Anyway, I appreciate your posts, and I'd love to see what you have to show me. Just send me a message.

I completely agree with your last 3 posts....however my comments were not about the spirit but concern the form of the kata and basic principles like holding up the heel while moving from one direction to another. I think that a real master should have a middle position between to blocks or between a hit and a block. Of course this position should not be underlined but must exist! I can send you (when I have time) some materials to see what I mean... Congrads for your good answers! Thanks!

As for MMA in terms of effectiveness, MMA is very good for building a strong body and definitely some fighting skills. However, a real warrior is a lot more than a fighter. It's not just in your body, but it's also in your heart. MMA fighters are arrogant showboats who have no composure or finesse. They have no control over their emotions, and it's evident in the way they fight. I'm not saying they're weak or can't fight or cowardly. They can fight and do serious damage for sure.

That's partially true. But not entirely. My sensei, for example, used his Karate and Aikijutsu in war and killed people with his martial arts. He trained about 50 years ago. However, to say that nowadays people are not trained like that is true in MOST cases, but not all. Ever since martial arts became a public thing for anybody, as opposed to a way of life, it has become watered down, but there are still some people who practice it in its truest form, most of whom won't be found in the US

I agree but nowadays I dont know a single person to have trainings like a real warrior. the same for MMA fighters. But a slight comparison will show you that the current karate trainees in total are less effective than thier MMA opponents. The master above has some technical mistakes in his performance above and that is according to the greatest shotokan master sensei Kato (still living). I can not saying anything about his efficacy. I believe that this master is powerful and severe fighter.

Ummm.. you basically just admitted it then. According to you, a long time ago, karate was more deadly.... the reason being they used it and other traditional martial arts in wars. MMA fighters are athletes who are trained to last long and take pain, but they're not warriors. In a fight to the death situation, they'd have a much harder time than a traditional martial artist, because their attacks aren't centered around fighting to kill, but rather for points.
Thank god for this. I always get mixed up at the end of this kata. Now i'm not!

But a person with a true warrior's spirit is humble and does not seek to show off his prowess or seek recognition, nor does he cause pain to others needlessly, as is the case in MMA where people bloody each other up for others' entertainment.
