This is my first attempt at building my own wind turbine. I used an old bicycle frame, some pvc pipe cut in half, and roof flashing. The wind speed was approximately 10-15 mph when I shot this video. The turbine assembly itself (the spinning part) weighs to much to spin at any less wind speed. I am currently fabricating a second turbine out of solely aluminum. I currently have no motor hooked up to the turbine. I purchased a permanent magnet motor off of ebay, but I am afraid I was a bit over zealous and purchased to large of a motor. I read that car alternators make bad turbine motors but they spin with a lot less friction then permanent magnet motors do and can be subsequently used with a higher gearing ratio to increase the rpm speed of the motor. I will post another video soon when I complete the new aluminum turbine

  • Thanks! This was my first attempt at building a wind turbine but it was way to heavy to spin fast enough to turn a motor. Check out my other videos, there you will find my newest proto-type which spins much much faster. I still have not hooked up a motor to it, I am waiting on some sprockets.

  • Brilliant! Your system turns smoothly and is visually pleasing (for all of those picky neighbors). Have you attempted to generate electricity? It seems like it all comes down to rpms. Good work.
