Bernise is a social entrepreneur who believes that young people can do amazing things in the world - if only they are given the opportunity to do so. That's what drove her to start up Syinc, a nonprofit with the mission to empower young people to become incredible change-agents. Bernise also holds a full-time job as a Change Management consultant and sits on the board of the International Youth Foundation. When not in meetings or speaking engagements, Bernise enjoys (fairtrade) chai latte with friends, live jazz, and exploring obscure nooks and crannies in Singapore and beyond.

TEDxSingapore is an ideas community in Singapore passionate about ideas and TED, founded in April 2009 and numbering many thousands people today. 100% Community created +free to join, visit us and get inspired at www.TEDxSingapore.sg

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

  • And one year on and she's still going strong after bagging singapore woman award 2011. I'm surprised i've not seen this video before.)

  • ok the intro to this video is crazy wtf ahaha cool topic tho

  • i actually skipped school to read newspapers...

  • I liked this talk, it's has a good personal experience about what went wrong with science education, and I think that there are sooo many more out there. I agree with her mantras, and we need to work them into our education.

    - afraid to fail

    - celebrate one's self

Right now, students with supportive family (which I had) have these things. It makes a huge difference in success, but most of our primary education students now don't have this.
