  • i don't think any of the clips actually provide any evidence of his voice changing whatsoever, but i agree he can't reach the notes he used to.

his voice sounded so beautiful in the 'reckoner' performance at reading and that's what matters. thom makes amazing music, and i'd rather hear a talented voice dying out with pride rather than the talentless drivel that plagues the radio stations

  • are you deaf? These clips are chopped up from performances in 1997, 2003, 2008....you can hear the sound change when the performance change...i know the video isnt properly synced but come on! thoms voice is not what it used to be..plain and simple.

  • His voice is not dead, and I don't think his vocals have changed as much as he has made them change.

    1. He's getting lazier (or care-free if you like)/doesn't care about perfect singing anymore and cares more about raw emotion than ever.

    2. He's singing more from his throat now instead of deeper and more solid from his diaphragm. This results in him sounding more whiney.

    3. He's more slurry now just as a style change...which I dislike, but if it represents his current attitude then oh well.

  • Listen to Thom sing The Present Tense in the related videos and tell me again that Thom's voice is dead. Just try and tell me. I dare you.

  • thom can sound good when he wants to sound good. on some of the older songs like paranoid android that he's probably sick of singing he just doesnt bother much with.

  • his voice sounds great..

  • I agree, but only from watching the videos from the end of the in rainbows tour. Towards the end of that tour his voice was sounding terrible, but i saw them play in glasgow in june '08 and his voice was perfect. And again in Leeds this year, wasn't as good but it was still fine.

  • I disagree. Thom performs Reckoner extremely well live. Just listen to the From The Basement Reckoner performance. His new voice just cant seem to suit the old songs...thats all im saying. He still sounds great...just a little shitty at times. Noones fucking perfect.

  • It sounds great on record because a lot of work is done with it. Songs like Reckoner and House of Cards are hardly 'as live' vocal wise. That's nto a knock. I think the band are as good as they've ever been. Thom uses his voice in different ways now and it works for their current sound.

  • His singing style is certainly different now: more of a wail than a moan. Less clarity in the words and when he holds a note for a long time it quavers. That's age for you. He can't sound like like a pre-pubescent boy forever! I think that the songs have adapted to suit this different style very well though: your example of Reckoner is a very good one. He fills the big spaces in the song with his voice and it works very well. Of course, his voice is not recorded 'cleanly' on that track :)

  • I noticed a change in Thoms vocals starting from Kid A. Something just happend. Most likely intentional. But he can still hit those BIG notes. It's day he loses his falsetto we should all start worrying.
