Mark Wheeler plays examples from his workshop in the Spring 2010 Lute Society Of America Quarterly "Fitting the Shoemaker". "The Shoemaker" is a scottish fiddle tune that was popular in the 17th century. His arrangement is based on the surviving versions of the piece in the Guthrie Fiddle manuscript, John Playford's "Apollo's Banquet", Waterson Keyboard Manuscript and also includes the tunes "Peggie is over ye Sie Wi'ye Souldier" from the Skene Mandora manuscript & "The Virgin Queen" from John Playford's "The Dancing Master".
The cittern was built by Peter Forrester.
A recording of this piece is available on the Pantagruel CD "Laydie Louthians Lilte" available from www.pantagruel.de

...was that wind instrument at the end a low whistle or a tenor recorder?

@Desmaad This cittern uses a diatonic scale. Some of the notes on one string are in the same position as semi-tones on the other strings, so the fret only goes partway across the fingerboard. Chromatic citterns used full width frets.

Sounds kinda metal, and the fretting is weird: none of them go all the way across the fretboard.
