Commissioned by UN-REDD, and screened to World Leaders at the United Nations, the film highlights the value of tropical rainforests for tackling climate change. REDD - Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries - is an effort to create a financial value for the carbon stored in forests, offering incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development.

  • By creating a carbon market and turning the worlds forests into carbon stock, Rich, developed nations who are creating the bulk of the GHG emissions will buy into these carbon markets (AKA buy forests) and can continue polluting in their own countries. Yes, the people who live near the forest will get paid, but the people within the forest will be evicted and displaced. REDD does not actually reduce GHG emissions, it just allows the countries who create them to feel better while still polluting.

  • We can now all become carbon neutral with REDD and get paid to incitate others to do so,

  • @Tighen31305 When you build a new island the water level of the rest of the sea rises. Which city do you want to flood and put under water first? Venice? London? Why don't we just get smarter about caring for our land areas? REDD makes sense. It's at least the best solution so far. Unfortunately, it doesn't address the causes - e.g. it does nothing to reduce worldwide demand for frivolous consumption, but it's a good start to fixing the problems.

  • @Tighen31305 dude, we can't make more land. the ocean is were it all started. we need to take care of the plants and animals that we already have. we can't just stop taking care of these life forms. we must make them strong and alive again before we can move on.

  • Theres too much Ocean, why not make man made islands, and make them rain forests?

  • best Idea I've heard yet

  • REDD is the way forward, there is need to encourage community based conservation at grass root level.

  • You guys are So right about... Go REDD!
