There is no such thing as normal. I believe in the right to choose. i believe the parents should have learned Sign and started teaching this baby girl Sign and when she gets older let HER decide NOT the parents.

they're acting like being deak is going to hold her back like not having all limbs or being confined to a wheel chair.. then yeah, things are going to be slightly different if that was the case.. but even then being confined to a wheel chair or not having all of her limbs there are things that can help her to do what she wants with more ease.
..it wouldnt be hard for the child because she didnt know what it was like to hear in the first place.. it'd just be a little harder for the parents.

i don't like that doctor said "normal" instead of "hearing"!!! they make it sound like deaf and no cochlear implant is big problem. that is wrong !

this almost makes me angry. I feel the child should have been able to choose if she wanted the implant or not after embracing her deaf culture. ASL is not a disability. If I invited one hearing person over to my house for thanksgiving (all deaf lets say) then who would be disabled? not the deaf... but the hearing. Deaf people are just using a different language. thats it. deaf people can do anything a hearing person can.... except hear.

You're right, and I think it should be taught in schools from a young age in pre school, and as a pre-parenting course to learn basics to teach the child, or at least be offered in all schools. I mean, it's a universal language! Why not? It would opens new doors for the deaf community if more people knew sign language. But still, it's a prety neat procedure, and though hearing won't be perfect, it will be there. I hope they teach the child Sign Language also. Should be a 3rd official language
