Realism speed paint - part 1

This is my first attempt at painting something on the computer that was realistic. This was really just one big experiment for me..

the tracing isn't supposed to be exact, i just wanted an idea of where things should be. i wanted to paint he photo, not copy it.

@Hoolai can't you just paint it without tracing? what's the point if you want to paint the photo not copy it?

i was waiting for the eyes to be drawn the whole time... it just looked creeepy without eyes

i trace outlines sometimes too. its okay man. good job!

if this is a study, you shouldn't trace and if it's just a reference (the photo) what are you referencing for? the color? the pose? the gesture? the facial expressions? though I'll check the finish version.

@hematitecrow I don't think that if people just take a few 'base' lines out of a photo is tracing.

I think that many people do it.

I have done it a few times.

How is this 'tracing' or 'copying'? If you even study art, you'd realise that every artist uses a reference in realist paintings because afterall, photorealism = paintings that starts from photos. Almost every great artist out there does grid copy at some points in their lives. So don't criticize if you don't even know.
