there were slavery before canada became country in 1867. the french & english brought slave to the americas before canada & the states became country. i know one canadian slave Marie-Joseph Angélique was hang bcuz she refuse to be sold.

Canada was the second nation in the world to abolish slavery, even before the nation that "owned" us.
Canada's "civil rights movement" was a (forget the date but I think it was in the 60s) black man who went into a restaurant and was denied service in ontario. He sued the restaurant and the laws were changed. No violence necessary ;)
