This weekend marks 40 years since the Woodstock music and arts festival was held in upstate New York. It was August 15, 1969 when Richie Havens played the first notes of what would become a three-day celebration. Havens sat down with VOA's Adams Phillips to talk about this milestone in American cultural history. And he performs some of his iconic songs from the Woodstock event. I was having a difficult time understanding him cuz I was just lost in the sound of his golden voice. No wonder the people at Woodstock demanded 10 encores!

Yea, after the 60's it was about what the music big wheels wanted and about money and lots of good singer/songwriters went right along with it. Many stayed true to their music, CSNY comes to mind but when I saw The Zombies reunion in 06 it was unreal what true artists can do. Peace my friends.
