I Tuchini del Borghetto - Carnevale di Ivrea

CARNEVALE DI IVREA 2009

Lo Storico Carnevale di Ivrea è un evento unico, una manifestazione italiana di rilevanza internazionale. Un "sogno" che si manifesta ogni anno portando nelle vie e nelle piazze della città di Ivrea storia, tradizione, spettacolo, emozioni e grandi ideali. In questo evento storia e leggenda si intrecciano per dar vita ad una sequenza spettacolare che travalica e fonde i secoli.
Il tradizionale getto delle arance affonda le sue radici intorno alla metà dell'ottocento. Oggi lo scontro si svolge nelle principali piazze della città, e vede impegnati equipaggi sul carro (simboleggianti le guardie del tiranno) contro le squadre degli aranceri a piedi (i popolani ribelli) costituite da centinaia di tiratori. Si tratta indubbiamente del momento più spettacolare della manifestazione che ben evidenzia la lotta per la libertà, simbolo del carnevale eporediese. La battaglia delle arance insieme a tutti gli eventi storici presenti nella manifestazione di Ivrea, costituisce un incredibile patrimonio culturale e goliardico, che posiziona la festa tra le più importanti nel panorama nazionale ed internazionale. Il getto dello arance rappresenta anche il momento in cui è più alta la partecipazione collettiva: tutti possono prenderne parte, iscrivendosi in una delle nove squadre a piedi oppure divenendo equipaggio di un carro da getto.

IVREA CARNIVAL -- ORANGE BATTLE TUCHINI
The Historical Carnival of Ivrea is a unique Italian event of international importance. A "dream" that is repeated every year, bringing history, tradition, spectacle, excitement and solemn ideals to the streets and squares of the town of Ivrea (north Italy). In this event history and legend mingle to create a spectacular sequence crossing the centuries.
The traditional orange throwing has its roots in the middle of the XIXth century.
Today the contest is still enacted in the main squares of the town where teams in carriages (symbolising the tyrant's guards) battle against the orange thrower teams on foot (the rebellious commoners) which consist of hundreds of throwers. The orange battle is an incredible cultural and goliardic heritage putting the festival on a national and international level.
The orange throwing is also the event with the greatest collective participation: anybody can take part by enlisting in one of the nine teams on foot or becoming a member of a carriage crew.
