London 2007 Tree-Athlon -- 15th September 2007
The 2007 London Tree-Athlon kicked off on a lovely sunny day with over 1,500 Tree Athletes gathering at the starting line to put their green foot forward and run for trees. A similar number were there to cheer them on and to take part in fun and tree-themed activities including willow weaving, big beat percussions, head massages, face painting and tree walks.
Amongst them, TV gardening celebrities joined in! Channel 4's City gardener Matt James ran as a Tree-Athlete, Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins was the man with the starter's gun, and Tony Kirkham from BBC's Trees that Made Britain came as a tree enthusiast. Leading fitness expert and marathon runner Sam Murphy led the Tree-Athletes through a pre-run stretch routine before joining the race herself and finishing 4th.
