  • Respectfully, I say that Richard took some elements of Esquerita's style but the pompadour hair..mostly Richard with a taste of Billy Wright.

  • @ensconse Actually, i have uploaded a song by Esquerita and at the end there is an interview with Little Richard. He and Esquerita crossed paths at the Grey Hound bus station in Mobile in the late 50s. Little Richard was waiting for his bus when Esquerita got off a bus and Little Richard was blown away by the hairstyle. He states, he copied it. However, I don't think Little Richard ever dyed his hair blue and had a microphone chord long enough to go out of a nightclub and into the street.

  • Great version. I have another Esquerita version, less "produced". Richard did this song in the studio in 1970. But it was esquerita who copied RICHARD after Richard's successin '55! He taught LR some piano in the '50s.

  • @ensconse Richard has stated that he did get the idea of his hairstyle from SQ.

  • Eskew Reeder , THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL!

  • @jt123egypte Hang in there. I promise more from "the King" soon.

I was lucky enough to meet Esquerita back in 1984 at the launch of the Dr. Rock biography of Little Richard, at the Red Parrot Disco in New York (Manhattan). Esquerita appeared to be about 6 foot 8. Cool guy!

In '86, an excerpt of Richard and Esquerita jamming together that night was included in Richard's "60 MInutes" appearance. LR sang "Thank You, Jesus", while E. played piano.

  • The King and Professor of Rock And Roll.

  • @BeachMusicDJ one of the greatest stars of genuine rock'n'roll!

sure! but not only his music is a killer, he was one himself too, perhaps! or how came that brutally slaughtered hustler boy into his mexican motel-room? hm?

  • @EbonyBunny1 I just read in wikipedia that he inspired Little Richard!
