I'm about to start studying with someone who actually studied with Caballe, so it'll be in that same line of teachers... here's hoping to fill out a more lyric line and more healthy breath support for me!

@raigekimaru Dessay in the 1990s but now her voice sounds black :( She can't touch Caballe :)

Montserrat Caballe has the greatest female voice ever and extraordinary versatility and intelligence to adapt to diverse roles. It would be interesting to know of teachers along the way, but in maturity she seems to be her own best teacher. If Marian Anderson had had a full opera career she might be comparable

I prefer Dessay on this piece. She fits the role better (you have to remember, Julliette is a 13 year old girl, not a crazy warrior princess like Odabella or Brunhilde). It is obvious (wonderful singer though she is) that she struggles to maintain the depth of sorrow while keeping the voice light and innocent (a feat much more easily accomplished by a light lyric or coloratura soprano)
