Pat Howey - Side Pocket Break

This is a video of my friend Pat Howey at the 2008 Derby City Classic Straight Pool Challenge. Pat was one of the best straight pool players I have ever met. He played flawless patterns, and always had awesome control of the cue ball. In this video, Pat shoots an alternative side pocket break shot during one of his high run attempts. Pat Howey passed away on April 22, 2009 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He touched the lives of everybody he came into contact with, and he will be missed terribly.

I don't get it, are you allowed to break like that? And, if you are, whats so difficult about that shot?

In the DCC Straight Pool Challenge, you set up your own break shot to start the run. This video was posted to honor Pat's memory & his distinct slip-stroke style, which made him a legend of the game. The shot isn't difficult - but the way he strokes the ball is amazing. There seems to be this BS about every shot on youtube needs to be impossible - or amazing - but if you play the game at the highest level, everything will look easy - and that is the case in this video.
