Caribbean Airline Crash Landed in Guyana July 30th 2011

154 passengers and 8 crew members aboard a Caribbean Airlines Flight BW 523 were rescued from a smoking aircraft, which crash landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

The incident is reported to have occurred around 1:25 am.

Further investigations have revealed that at the time of touch down it was raining heavily. Initial reports are at this time that the pilot's vision was obscured by the heavy rainfall and misty conditions which led to him actually touching down the aircraft mid-way of the runway.

This resulted in the aircraft exhausting the end of the stretch, plunging through the perimeter fence of the airport. The Caribbean Airlines leased Boeing 737 stopped straddling the road leading to the South Dakota Circuit.

Firefighters on the ground quickly worked to cut passengers and crew members out of the aircraft which has broken into two halves by the time it came to a halt.

NCN has learnt that the flight was a connecting flight from John F Kennedy airport to Miami, Florida before stopping in Port Of Spain Trinidad.

The flight was expected to arrive in Guyana at 21:25 hours on Friday but was delayed arriving at 1:25.

The cause of the incident is still to be determined, but a source close to the fire service stated that one of the plane engines was said to be smoking at the time of rescue operations.

Civil Aviation Authority officials are currently being assisted by Firefighters, soldiers and police conducting initial investigations

@nazusmc Have you ever traveled the US? Most Americans can't speak grammatically correct English either, especially in the South and Midwest . Guyana speaks the Queen's English and has a literacy rate of 99.0% which matches both the UK and US according to UNESCO.
