I have a tumor on my left sciatic nerve, so I know the pain of sciatica all too well. When my nerve gets more irritated than normal (and thus the pain increases dramatically), my doctor prescribes a muscle relaxant for me to keep the irritated nerve from sending the muscles around it into spasm. I find that heat wraps (Thermocare) also help to loosen the muscles, reducing the inflammation that causes sciatica pains..
