This is a brief history of the food stamp program. I decided to share it more to emphasize the point that hunger and poverty at this level did (and still does) exist here in the USA. In the waves of rancor and stigma directed to welfare recipients, it is easy to lose sight of the benefits of such programs. Hunger in the US in a non partisan issue, but we cannot sit back and wait for the government to help those in need. As human beings and citizens of the United States, we have a civil and moral duty to care for one another. If we did so, there would be no need for welfare programs. So get involved. Start a food bank, join a food drive, adopt a neighborhood bum and share your leftovers. And do it more than just once a year at Christmastime.

  • Food Stamps should be abolished and those funds given back in a Tax cut

  • @gopconservative78 but what good does a tax cut do for someone who has been out of work for several years now and isn't receiving any earned income? How will that person be able to access food with no money? A tax cut won't buy them food.

  • If you can afford to buy a cell phone, xbox, playstation, cable tv , Internet or a flat screen tv then you can afford to buy your food an you don't need food stamps

  • I find it amazing that people can have as many children as they want, regardless of their inability to support them, and our country will subsidize this.

  • i applied and got denied! i made 2 much money! i made 200.00 over the monthly limit . they only go by your gross income and don't consider your payout of monthly bills. i would like to know how people are this benefit because i am working paycheck to paycheck!

  • Now all these starving people can take their food stamps to McDonalds

    That's intelligent

  • Hunger in America is even a bigger problem in bad economic times when people are out of work longer then normal.

  • The Food Stamp program has been successful but it needs to be reformed to address the broader issues of Hunger in America. And to help people eligible for Food Stamps get better jobs so they no longer need it.
