A day out at East Kirkby Aerodrome - The Lincolnshire Aviation Heirtage Centre. Home to Avro Lancaster NX611 - the former gate guardian of RAF Scampton. I visited East Kirkby Aerodrome on 19/07/09. This is a video of the Lanc on a ground run and taxy on that day.

Now owned by the Panton brothers who bought and restored the Lanc as a memorial to their older brother Chris Panton who died on operations flying Lancasters during WWII. The aircraft and museum are now operated as a tribute to the 55,000 men of Bomber Command who died during WWII.
The men of Bomber Command have seldom received due recognition for the efforts, achievements and sacrifices made on our behalf. The Panton brothers rightly make amends for this.

Lest we forget.

  • It is. Thanks very much. It's very moving to watch this in the flesh - realising what these aircraft represent.

  • Awesome. What a machine- NOTHING radiates raw power like the Lancaster and it's Rolls Royce Merlin symphony orchestra. Hugely impressive and it tugs at the heart strings. The Lancaster proves the engineers adage, "If it looks right, it is right!" Thank you very much for posting this excellent footage! I will definitely have to visit East Kirkby in 2012.

  • great stuff nige, its just like starting a triumph !
