A video news story of the 2008 Mississauga Youth Games. Every year young people from across the city of Mississauga, Ontario compete in this free, Olympic inspired event.
Please feel free to file Freedom of Information using the criteria cited by MISSISSAUGAWATCH.
I can guarantee you that you will not find any record of youth being banned from the Mississauga Youth Games.
Ursula, while your cause is nobel, you are misguided in targeting the Mississauga Youth Games here. If you have something to share about MY Games specifically, continue to comment. If not, perhaps discussions on other matters should take place in another forum.
Well, I said I was hesitant to pay the $ 5 because I'm not anywhere near as knowledgable as you. But still, I'd like to know what I'm going to be diving into.
I am interested though, but I figured from your response, it's far too complicated to explain in one post.
Look, if you are really interested. I mean REALLY. I have printouts of the security guard bans that I already paid for. Bans, trespass, arrests from January 2006 to December 23, 2008.
Can photocopy the lot for you for pickup somewhere.
It's those kids, that youth, whose stories I'm interested in. Tons to tell. $2,000 worth of Freedom of Information documents that reveal Mississauga's dirty little secret. And a Root of Youth Violence.
I don't exactly like paying $ 5 dollars for something that isn't good news. I don't have kids, nor am I anywhere near the age range that you think I might be at :)
You can say I'm rational and what you're saying seems to be interesting.
Without getting into too much detail, can you summarize what the documents are saying? Is it corruption? mismanagement? Who exactly is the bad guy? (I saw your video, saw one of the 'head guys' smiling before leaving that courtroom with another guy)
AWDracer , first of all thank you! You nave no idea how many people respond to me suggesting they don't know what's going on with hostility and profanity.
Second, it's clear that you care about kids because you're prepared to "bite".
You can either get a Freedom of Information (FOI) form online or go to the City Clerk's office (2nd floor). Next, you just take the wording I gave you and pay $5.00.
"I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about."
EXACTLY! You don't know how youth and minors are treated at City facilities.
Tell you what. Here's a challenge. File Freedom of Information using the following words:
"All records of bans, trespass and arrests issued at City of Mississauga facilities and transit since January 2006 (include all relevant fields, Date, Year of Birth, facilities involved, ban duration.)"
My opinion on youth being banned from city facilities? I'd say the situation is unfortunate and luckily these youth are still welcome to participate in great opportunities like the Mississauga Youth Games. The games don't take place at city facilities so all are welcome. This year MY Games is being held at T.L. Kennedy Secondary School.

With some explanation or context, maybe then I can decide if spending the 5 dollars should be worth it.

You have to pay more for photocopying though.
No. Saying nothing against the coaches.

Alright I'm biting, I'm at your site. Freedom of Information - that's all for transparency.
What next?
Are you saying that people who coach MAY or MAY NOT be hazardous to kids?

I was a coach last year here and I had nothing BUT a good time. The kids were awesome and I know they had fun.
