I have already begun making a series of videos with interpretations/analysis of the series and this movie, but I need your help! I want this to be a total fan discussion. Comments, video responses, the works. Once I start posting videos, I want to hear from you. Subscribe if you're interested in this special project so you can be updated on it. I will shoot for the first video to be posted by the end of August. I'm calling it Project Eva for now. Thanks to lusulpher for inspiring the name.

This is the final scene (One more final: l need you) of the movie "The End of Evangelion." The movie, famous for being the very confusing "true" conclusion to the Evangelion series. I happen to think the movie compliments the anime's ending.
Also, I included the end credits, the ending song is called, "Thanatos- If I can't be yours" performed by Loren and Mash.

The final line, delivered by Asuka "How disgusting" is famous for being one of the most hotly debated lines in all of anime. What do you think it means?

If you still have questions and are confused, here is a very good resource:

  • @ngamer3k Hear me out,is it me or do you also think the rebuild is a reincarnation ,if you watch 1.0 and 2.0 you notice the water is red,and the moon is already stained with blood, and they say it feels like its happening again, not referring to the second impact.

  • @XxXpsyhcothugXxX Some people say the series is happening in cycles or something. It's most likely Anno is just throwing stuff in there as a throwback to the original series.

Shinji saying he chooses to live in this world, and that his life can have greater value means he rejects instrumentality.

  • @Zero4ph oh, so they are like adam and eva, if you look that way is in it?

  • @Zero4ph Someone had to find her clothes and bandages for her eye, but if he helped her, that wouldn't explain why they were lying side by side unless he was sleeping and she chose to lie next to him. Given his reaction to her presence, I wouldn't think it was the other way around.

  • @Zero4ph Hmm... I think the original line in Japanese translates to either "...you make me sick..." or "...I feel sick..." but you're right with the open interpretive nature. I wonder if Gendo and Misato and the others who were injured/killed before the 3rd Impact would be alive after being reduced to LCL and reformed.

  • @portela132

Both Shinji and Asuka are truly alive. ~~

  • @Sh4d0wKat

it could be anything it's open to vague interpretation It's probably just a line signifying her disgust with just everything. ~~

  • i don't get it, at the end they are truly alive or no?

  • @Zero4ph And yet: "...how disgusting..."

  • @Sh4d0wKat

I think Shinji apparently been alone for some time before Asuka's return, and was nearly insane from isolation, so he wasn't sure if he wanted to live anymore. When he saw Asuka he wanted to kill her because he was afraid she'd reject him again With her caress, he realizes she doesn't hate him and that she won't just reject him, and he is brought back to sanity. ~~

  • @Zero4ph Yes, but by trying to kill her? To put an end to that "other" existence, as you put it, seems a bit off with what you stated. Granted, he and Asuka didn't part on the best of terms pre-Third Impact, but even so...
