Atlantic Community : The Pakistani journalist and acclaimed author Ahmed Rashid gave a very thoughtful, passionate and captivating keynote speech at the Heinrich Boell Foundation's conference on "Values and Interests in Foreign Policy" on September 11, 2008.

  • That is my point exactly.

  • It's not a matter of doing Afghanistan or anyone else a favor. It's about getting rid of the dogs the US and company nurtured during the 70s and 80s. US needs to be there to assure it's regional influence and power playing, to make sure anti-US Islamists do not find a safe haven there, not because poor Afghans were getting slaughtered by Islamist thugs or because of any other melo-dramatic scenario.

  • Why should we sacrifice our soldiers in Afghanistan? They never did anything to us before we invaded their country.

  • ..or he is one of those who Ahmed Rashid just spoke of: "ignorant to the facts, ignorant to the reality..."

He is just being a TYPICAL PAKI, its not his fault, it runs in his dirty Blood :)

  • That's because your understanding of the Afghan crises hardly goes beyond your computer screen unlike Ahmed Rasheed who has been covering the region and the conflict for about two decades.

  • I do not find Ahmed Rashid's comments incisive or thoughtful!
