love how the cops waste no time blocking the hydrant in the beginning.
-
They're not just testing the hydrant to see if it works, they're also letting all that nasty brown water out before they put it into their expensive pumper. It's a fairly standard practice.

there are numerous reasons to flush hydrants. In detroits case they have a very high arson rate. serious arsonists will do whatever it takes to burn a building. somethings they try are steal hydrant caps or fill the hydrant with stuff to prevent water flow. its just some things to look out for kudos to the operator for flushin it out.

to funny.. it must just be the firefighter in us...first thing we all wanted to tell you was that he was just flushing the hydraunt.. lol By the way cops always ( ALWAYS ) seem to find just the right spot to park...
-
yup I agree, pretty much everywhere will flush the hydrant first to get sediment out and make sure its flowing, etc. You would ruin a half a million dollar apparatus with rust and sediment going into it. And more importantly the guys on the end of the line may be left without water.

Must be nice showing up to battle a blaze knowing that the assholes shooting up the place might kill you before the fire even gets the opportunity.
-
Does anyone know what kind of fire truck the engine at the hydrant was? Kinda odd looking in the front.
-
in detroit some drug dealers will store drugs in the hydrants for other dealers to pick up later. Numerous acounts of bags of coke stuck in the pumper. gotta flush that shit out first.
-
well.. I was gonna comment on the hydrant flushing.. but since I saw your comment about being corrected.. and several of the correction comments.. there's obviously no reason to.. lol.. having said that... awesome video!!!

i just am glad to see that atlanta cops arent the only cops to block a plug
-
i love detroit you get the whole deal fire gun fight all at the same time looked like a war movie
-
why was the swat team there .. was the man trapped an arsonist something?
Many firefighters have been kind enough to point out my error in describing the engineer's actions at the hydrant, and I thank you. I had to delete a comment here from someone who doesn't know how to act civilized. I (and many others) respect the firefighting profession very highly. I always believe that if you are a professional, then you should act like one on the job and off, and that goes for comments on Youtube. Stay safe.

Still can't get to them. I took stills throughout, too, though haven't posted, including the guys in handcuffs and three firefighters up on the roof.

My wonky camera work near the start is due to discovering there are people with guns in the house trying to kill the guy who was trapped upstairs! We moved back quickly to a safer brick wall. In defense of the deputy, I don't think he saw the hydrant, as his eyes were on the house. We were all expecting shots, though there were none.
