This is another departure from the types of videos I usually make, but I felt compelled to do a tribute to some of the young innocents (and a silent salute to many others), whose suffering and deaths helped spread awareness and movements, and even helped to change and form laws to protect people in the future. If anything positive is to come from such tragedy and loss, it is that their pain was not in vain and that more can be done to help prevent such terrible things from happening again. The faces of these young people show rays of sunshine that were snuffed out too early but whose memory is not forgotten. Let's continue to honor them! Featured in the video:

Dominique Dunne, 22 - actress and daughter of writer Dominick Dunne, she was strangled by her jealous and abusive ex-boyfriend.

Rebecca Schaeffer, 21 - actress who was murdered by an obsessed fan who had been stalking her.

Rob Piest, 15 - the final victim of serial killer John Wayne Gacy. It was Rob's disappearance that led to Gacy's arrest, conviction and eventual execution for the murders of 33 young men and boys.

Dorothy Stratten, 20 - model and actress, who was murdered by her estranged husband.

Etan Patz, 6 - he was abducted as he walked the bus stop for school one morning. He was legally declared dead in 2001, and a convicted child molester (currently incarcerated), confessed to fellow inmates that he killed Etan but will not give any details. As of this writing, no charges have been filed due to lack of evidence. May 25th, the day of Etan's disappearance, is now National Missing Children's Day.

Judith Barsi, 10 - a child actress, who along with her mother, was brutally murdered by her abusive father, who shortly thereafter took his own life.

JonBenet Ramsey, 6 - a child beauty pageant contestant who was found murdered in the basement of her family's home. The case was recently re-opened and many hope for an arrest and conviction for her murder.

Steven Stayner - a kidnap victim who was abducted at the age of seven and lived with his captor until he was 14, at which time he dared to escape, rescuing a 6-year-old boy, Timmy White, who would have suffered the same fate. Steven tragically died in a traffic accident at the age of 24, leaving behind a wife and two children. Timmy White, also a husband and father, died in 2010 of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 35. In a cruel twist of fate, Steven's older brother Cary is currently on Death Row for murdering four young women.

Adam Walsh, 6 - abducted and killed, it has been concluded that his killer died in prison. Adam's father John Walsh went on to host "America's Most Wanted".

Amber Hagerman, 9 - was abducted near her grandparents' home and murdered. Her mother helped establish the "Amber Protection Act" and "Amber Alert".

Sylvia Likens, 16 - a young girl was abused and tortured to death by a woman paid by her parents to room and board her and her younger sister.
The perpetrator also encouraged and manipulated her own and neighborhood children into abusing Sylvia. Laws were made to protect children and awareness was spread regarding child abuse.

Susan Rancourt, 18, Georgann Hawkins, 18, Melissa Smith, 17, Laura Aime, 17, Nancy Wilcox, 16, Denise Naslund, 18 and Kimberly Leach, 12 - were just a few of serial killer Ted Bundy's victims. Kimberly was his final victim, and it was for her murder that he was put to death in 1989.

  • The loved ones of these young people are left to forever miss and mourn. What a terrible memory that is with them everyday. Today, Sept 8, 2011 near us, in the town of Sparwood, a 3 yr old is missing. Taken from his bed by someone who means him harm 3 days ago. I have thought of him all day. His parents are I'm sure in agony. Is there a time coming when this will not happen? Something is really wrong in the world.

  • @dlsflower , you are so right. Why must so many people suffer because of sick and murderous individuals? So heartbreaking.

  • Can't type a comment when I'm crying.

  • @juliuschas , that's a very nice compliment actually. I teared up many times while putting it together and watching it afterward. Thank you for your comment.

  • Odd...I wonder what became of these people. Tis a small thing.

  • test bundy killed my dads cousin ( Laura aime) who was in this video..): rest in peace -3

  • It makes a change to see somebody caring about the victims than the weirdos who love the killers.

  • @Muirmaiden Being a dad myself, I can't imagine--don't WANT to imagine--how it feels for one's child to go missing. I just watched "I Know My First Name Is Steven" for the first time recently. It was good (won't say "enjoyable"), but I shouldn'ta watched. Like Steven Stayner, I ran into a Bad Man when I was about 7. My ordeal didn't last a summer, let alone seven years, but it still bothers me 50 years later! Thanks again for the video; it helps me face a grim subject.

  • Thank you for this lovely reminder and remembrance ... very nice video.

  • What a beautiful video, I'm glad to know there's someone else in the world who stops to think about these people once in a while. Just one little thing, Amber Hagerman was 9 when she was abducted, not 10. Lovely video though, you should be proud of yourself
