Satchmo in 1932 performing "Shine."
The somewhat bizarre stage set and costumes may have some viewers wondering what's going on here. This performance is part of a musical short less than 10 minutes long. It was originally filmed as a promo to be included during the screening of 1930's full-length films. The short was about a man (the guy with the epaulettes and tall hat) who dreams he's the king of a soap bubble-filled land populated by folks dressed in outlandish garb, one of whom is a young Louis Armstrong. Armstrong performs two songs in the short.
