a strangely surreal comedy act that appealed to me as a teenager, i saw him in 1968 in reading, and at plymouth pavillions 71-72 time and again in london around 79 time.

i also saw charlie drake in 1969 and thought he was crap 75 minutes of childish custard pie in the face type skits very much in the line off the carry on films.. and i was 15 then.

Talk about black comedy! And the pacing is unfathomable, yet somehow it all works brilliantly. Perhaps he's still ahead of his time and ours.

I think Max Wall has a limited following. I think he was a god of humour. Most of my friends thought he was not of sound mind. He obviously switches something on for certain types!!. Anybody got the piano recital. Pagenine-------

stumoo190 is bang on correct, he was unbeatable, I read somewhere his walk ws modelled on a man called Laddie Dunn but can find no more of this..glad I can carry on watching with this brill thing....

My hero. I only saw him perform live once, sometime in the early 80's I think it was at at the Shaw Theatre in London. Brilliant bloke !

This took me back over 30 years when I saw one of his last performances on stage. He looked tired but was still incredibly funny. He had hole in his tights which he made much of!! Late arrivals irritated him - but marvellous putdowns - Have trouble with the rollllllllllllllls? and Have trouble with the tandemmmmmmmmmm? Never laughed so much since!
