What is even more important than most of the rest is that in the west secularism and the scientific view are actually dominant - even though it doesn't always seem that way; democracy rather than a world ruled by petty kings and princes if not the norm is a dream; the laws of physics rule the planets and the unfolding of the universe, not gods or spirits.
