Having been born in '52, this encompasses a lot of what I only began to comprehend growing up in Iowa. I still can't comprehend but a small piece of it - but anyone who's known alienation should be able to grasp the core feeling so many lived with for a lifetime. A long way traveled, a long way to go.

Tears were flowing down my face as I watched this.
I was born in the early 1950's in the Jim Crow South and the lifetime in the song is mine.
I'm very proud that I have made a small contribution in my lifetime to overcome my heritage and make this happen.
Hence, the tears.
