THIS OH-SO PROPER BUT ERRONEOUS (HIGH SCHOOL) TRANSLATION IS, AFTER ALL, USELESS. REMEMBER THAT ITS A GERMAN SOLDIER TRYING TO WOO AN ITALIAN MAIDEN, WITH REALLY BAD ITALIAN AND A THICK GERMAN ACCENT. (PR)

Matona, mia cara, Mi follere canzon,
Cantar sotto finestra, Lantze bon compagnon.
Don don don, diri diri, don don don don.
E mi ti foller bene, come greco e capon.
Don don don, diri diri, don don don don.
Mi ti portar becacce, grasse come rognon.
Don don don, diri diri, don don don don.
Don don don, diri diri, don don don don.
Mi ficcar tutta notte urtar, urtar, urtar come monton,
Don don don, diri diri, don don don don.

MATONA, MY DARLINK, ME MAKE YOU SONG.
ME SING UNDER WINDOW, MAKE GOOD COMPANION. Don, don , don...
I PRAY YOU LISTEN, I SING GOOD.
ME SPEAK TO YOU GOOD TOO, LIKE STUBBORN GREEK. Don, don, don...
ILL ORDER A HUNT WITH FALCONS.
ME BRING YOU A BEAKFUL — FAT LIKE A KIDNEY. Don, don, don...
YES ME NOT KNOW HOW SAY MANY BEAUTIFUL THINGS:
ME NOT KNOW PETRARCH (14th century Italian poet),
NOR FOUNT OF APOLLOS MUSE (Helicon is the mountain where Apollo and his Muses dwelt). Don, don, don...
IF ONLY YOU TALK TO ME, I NOT BE LAZY:
ME THRUST ALL NIGHT, KNOCKING LIKE RAM! Don, don, don... (Thanks to PR)

  • Fun, contemporary - they get it. :-)

  • Brilliant! A great interpretation and a very good translation too. Just one detail: beccaccia (plural beccacce) means woodcock. So "ME BRING YOU WOODCOCKS - FAT LIKE KIDNEYS" Doesn't that make more sense?

Si alguien me corrige, mucho mejor.

    Gracias

    Guillermo

  • Great, guys. Video sound should be improved, though. This tune reminds me about good old days. I used to sing it, along with other well known Renaissance songs, within an amateur portuguese choir. By the way, who are you, where are you from and where can one listen to you?

  • You are all very talented... Please let me know when you have a concert.. I will be there. :)

  • Good! But i think the first voice should be more in the group, and a bit more male man, more dark!:)indeed bravo!

  • nice perfroming.. but some notes are sharped, not natural .... good the italian too !

  • Great job guys! just listen to eachother a bit more. and internalize your beat so you're all together.

  • Loved it, but I'd adore it if you put the ficta back in. You could afford to be a bit more ribald, more unbuttoned. More of that delicious bass voice would be loverly, too.
