The 2-6-4 locomotive class 310 was a masterpiece of the Austrian locomotive designer Karl Golsdorf. With its unusually tall driving wheels of 2.14m the engine caused a sensation everywhere. With slightly over 100km / h maximum speed it was considered the Monarchy's fastest means of locomotion in 1911.
This clip is from the first CD of a trilogy which shows the history of the 310.23 with historical pictures and engine operation in post second world war Austria. The second CD is a comprehensive documentary of the reconstruction of this engine, including new boiler, The third CD shows the roll out of the engine from the works and its first big journey up the Semmering, the worlds first big Alpine Railway. All the CDs are available from www.bahnorama.com.
