This 4-minute clip demonstrates the most requested features added to Illustrator CS4: Multiple Pages! Or in Illustrator terminology, multiple artboards. Long-suffering Freehand users rejoice. This video was recorded at a recent CS4 Preview hosted by CreativeTechs and Luminous Works in Seattle. We're posting new clips from Steve Laskevitch's CS4 presentation each week until CS4 ships.

  • But how wouldnt it cause youre computer to suffocate on memory overload? illustrator files are heavier than Freehand files. Should we not place AI files in InDesign document and open each AI file one at the time (Edit Original command) ANYMORE? You cant make Manuals and Books with AI alone, can you?

  • how do i import an ai document into the current illustrator project im in...i want to put three different vector ai files together into the same vector project im working on...hope that makes sense...

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. I couldn't figure out how to do this with illustrator but thanks to you now I do.

  • i USE Illustrator and all but why use it to create Letterheads, Envelopes, Bizz Cards... isnt that why Indesign is for?

  • @misterwarwick totally disagree.

  • As an experienced Corel Draw user...I am stunned how difficult it is to create new pages 'art boards' in Illustrator Cs4...with an existing document is there a way to add pages to it? (without creating a new one?) Have given up and am reinstalling Corel Draw...in Corel Draw you just press "+" and you have a new page!!

  • Cool. Freehand had this since, uhhh, 1991? 1992? Freehand is STILL better. I recommend anyone who's really doing digital illustration they avoid illustrator and learn FH. It's. Just. Better.

  • @mMarceljanssen

OK, but this is just plain stupid! I see that they tried to copy some of the features CorelDRAW! had eons ago but they didn't implemented them right.! Why work on only one plane? Try using pages or panels one after another not 'artboards' beside other 'artboards'. What if I wanted multiple page different format pdf?

  • @Shmeeizer

In CS4 you can make a different 'Number of Artboards' if you make a new document. Every artboard is a page. If they are all the same size it will a be multi-page pdf.
