Time to do something senisble and rewire the Tunnel. What a waste of locomotive resource.

Thanks Robbie, got another on the way, bit shorter than the rest, tentatively titled "Notch 8", no prizes for guessing what that is about!

What the hell 8 Locomotive pull coal hoppers why not 4 locomotive front and maybe 4 or 5 locomotive back or middle
SD70MAC 4 years ago
8 is a little unusual, due to the 3 bankers normally stationed there being returned to the depot for servicing. Normally it's 5 on the front. Why not in the back or middle? NZ doesn't have remote loco control for mainline locos. Certainly flew up the 1:33 with 8 locos on the front though!

Oh see "NZ doesn't have remote loco control for mainline locos" I understand that
You know America way 4 locomotive and back 2 or 3 locomotive helper if too heavy or very long frieght (I think called DPU)
SD70MAC 4 years ago
Yeah DPU. Nothing like that here. Quite a bit of banking on the front occurs, but only very occasionally on the rear.
If only the old Rio Grande ran our railways, we're have 6 on the front, 5 in the middle and 8 behind! Not to mention a darn snazzy paint scheme.
