Remember being on holiday in Derbyshire when I was a kid and reading about Dave's world final winning car being on display on the garage roof and, out of nowehere, there it was! I pestered my Dad to turn around so we could go back and get some photos. Got photos of the gold roof car on the roof and his current cars around the back. Was offered a chance to sit in one of the cars and I'll always regret being too shy to do so. Probably my first and last chance to sit in one of these monsters!
I was at belle vue in manchester when this mountain of a man (gentleman) won the world final, he completed the last few laps with one arm resting on the window sill of the "bread van", he made it look so easy, I went to almost every meeting up and down the country in the 70s and 80s and Dave always had time to chat to people and let you sit in his car.
What an absolute gentleman.
It was funny watching his mechanics try to throw him up and catch him after winning the final. nice one dave.
