Dale and Rachel came for a sail in Destin Pass in the summer of '09. We had a brisk south-west wind on the starboard beam as we headed out and the Nacra 5 meter catamaran was hissing through the long rollers coming in from the Gulf.. This old 1973 vintage cat has been highly modified for cruising. Mast length, ridiculously long on these racers, was cut down to a more "normal" length and the reduced flat-top mainsail with a cutaway fore-foot is still powerful enough to pitch-pole the boat if you are not careful. It has a roller furling jib, a windsurfing boom, and powerboat seats. The pole steering nonsense was replaced with a tiller amidships with a spade handle from the hardware store. All lines play out from up front. A fixed aluminum spar between the bows makes rigging a snap. A picnic deck built up forward of the main thwart provides extra space for some civilized cruising.
