A rare demo of a as-yet unreleased Elton John-Bernie Taupin song. Taupin wrote these lyrics years ago (back inthe 80s?) and evidentally after previous unsatisfactory attemps, Elton finally finished the song. I'm guessing this recording comes from the "Songs from the West Coast" sessions in 2000-2001, but I don't know.... I've also done my best with the lyrics, but I welcome any corrections you might have!

In any case - A Great Elton John-Bernie Taupin song about the controversy when Bob Dylan went from acoustic folk singer to electric guitar-playing rocker in 1965.

  • sound like 1986

  • To me this sounds as if it was recorded in 1986, when his vocals grew hoarser, but I could be wrong.

  • I can send you a couple things! Add me as a friend and I can message you....

  • @RonnieFriend Also, this song is actually from 1980 :P

  • @RonnieFriend A live version of 'Just Like Belgium'. And not just mimed. There's one of those up here already. Find me one and I will love you for ever.

  • EXCELLENT!!!!!! You definitely win the prize! It's "Ibiza" ["Ibitha"] for sure..... I even just googled it and read that Bob Dylan had a house on Ibiza! I wish I could change the lyric on the video, but I'd have to reload the whole thing.... but now we know! THANK YOU! :o) (What would you like for your prize???!!)

  • @RonnieFriend Should it not be 'Ibiza' (pronounced 'Ibitha'), rather than 'Dibitha'? I only wondered because Ibiza is an island off Spain and the next line mentions the coast of Spain.

  • Ha Ha! That's Perfect! I love it! I was thinking that the mysterious word was probably some Dylan reference, cuz Bernie put a lot of Dylan words & phrases throughout the lyric.... but there are also many obscure places mentioned, so who knows? Good investigating, anyway! Thanx! If anyone else has ideas - please share them! Especially you Dylan experts!

  • @RonnieFriend

Hi, RonnieFriend! You know, I found this word just once in "Naturalis Historia" by Pliny the Elder! He wrote that Dabitha was a little town in Characene, Mesopotamia. It is all I could find out! But is it possible to think that Bernie meant namely THAT? But is there (maybe) some location with the same name nowadays? Perhaps in USA or Europe? Because you know Pliny’s version is too exotic!!))

  • Exactly! Thanx for noticing! "Dabitha" was my unsuccessful attempt to figure out just WHAT he was saying! Do U or anyone else have ANY idea what he says there? Makes no sense to me! HELP!!!!!
