한 인터넷 사이트 게시판에 "햄스터 인생 퇴갤" 이라는 제목의 동영상이 올라 왔습니다. '퇴갤' 이란 갤러리에서 퇴장한다는 의미의 은어였습니다. '햄스터의 인생이 갤러리에서 퇴장된다' 라... 많은 사람들이 무슨 의미인지 궁금해 했었겠죠.
곧 동영상이 뜨자 스크린에는 작은 햄스터 한 마리가 믹서기 안에 갇혀서 벽을 손톱으로 긁으며 밖으로 나가려고 발버둥 치는 모습이 보였습니다. 사람들은 의아해 했겠죠. 왜 저 햄스터를 믹서기 안에 가둬놨을까...
잠시 후,
스크린에서는 믹서기 돌아가는 소리와 함께 햄스터는 형체를 잃고 몇 초 만에 붉은 피로 변해 있었습니다.
작고 연약하고 아무런 힘도 없던 햄스터, 단지 한 사람의 잔인한 오락을 위해 믹서기 칼날에 몸이 갈기갈기 찢어지는 죽음을 맞이했습니다. 처음 들어간 낯선 공간에서 호기심 어린 두 눈으로 벽을 긁기 시작했죠. 햄스터는 그때 직감적으로 알아차렸는지도 모릅니다. 자신이 위험에 처해 있다는 것을요... 믹서기 밖으로 나가기 위해서 온갖 힘을 다해 작은 발로 유리벽을 밀던 마지막 모습을 보면서, 살아있는 모든 것들에게 그들의 생명이 소중하다는 사실을 다시 한번 깊게 느낄 수 있는 기회를 마련하기 위해 이 동영상은 제작되었습니다.
살아있는 모든 생명체는 사랑받을 자격이 있고, 그 누구도 함부로 그들에게 고통을 가해서는 안됩니다. 작은 햄스터라해도 예외는 아닐꺼에요. 각박한 이 사회에서, 동물을 존중하고, 사랑할 수 있는 마음만이 아름다운 세상을 만들어 갑니다. 동물학대는 사회적으로 도저히 용인될 수 있는 심각한 범죄입니다.

In December of 2009, a video clip titled "A hamster's life exits gallery" appeared on an online gallery site. 'What a curious title'- people watching the clip probably thought. Then, a small white hamster appeared on the screen, encased in a juice blender. The hamster was scratching the glass surface, trying desperately to get out. People probably wondered why someone had put the hamster inside a blender.
A moment later, the sound of blender was heard, and within seconds, the hamster had lost its shape and only his blood remained.
A small, defenseless hamster was put to a painful death, his entire body torn by the blades of the blender. The sole purpose of his death. To provide sick entertainment for a bored individual. Maybe the hamster sensed the danger he was in when it was scratching the wall. His little legs pushed against the glass with what force he had. We put together this video in the hopes that in watching the tragic fate of that befell the hamster, we will remind ourselves once again that no matter how big or small, life is dear to all.
All animals deserve protection from needless abuse, and small little hamsters are no exception. Animal cruelty is a serious crime that must not be condoned.
