  • ...so what do you do to relax? Is it any more pointless than repeatedly watching football year in year out, or religiously following Eastenders, going to the pub and drinking every weekend...the list goes on. No, I think when you watch this program, it prompts you to see how obsession, in whatever form, dominates all of us. It's satisfying to know that these guys get pleasure from doing something so harmless when there are many others out there who seek entertainment at the expense of others.

  • There's 1) bird spotting - where you might go for a walk in the woods and spot a Jay, Goldfinch or whatever, along with the squirrels and rabbits, which to me isn't too bad. The there's 2) bird watching - mainly observing waders doing no more than poking around in mud for hours on end and lacking the bird song and colours of the woddland and garden birds. The there's 3 - twitching! I regret I agree with binladinsded on the last two wiht the main activity the actual walk on number 1!

  • Having just watched this on TV, mesmerised at the sheer stupidity of these people and what must be the most arse numbing, pointless, zero achieving hobby in the history of the universe, these daft buggers competing against each other to spot birds. I thought train spotting was for wierdos but this lot are in another league
