His Y2K example is wrong. Companies spent big bucks for five years before 2000 to rewrite code to fix the bug. And one company kept a mainframe "as is" to see what would happen, it crashed when 2000 arrived. So all the predictions of catastrophe in 2000 ended up wrong.

Learned people 500 years ago knew the earth wasn't flat. Maybe the peasants, but not the intelligentsia. Eratosthenes estimated the earth's circumference 200 years before Christ.

Global Warming is no doubt a complex issue affected by a variety of factors. Of course there is natural global warming which is associated with solar output, milankovitch cycles etc. Might not be a great analogy, but picture this. Common sense tells us that wrapping yourself in a coat on a summer day will make you warmer than just wearing a shirt. That's exactly what carbon emissions do to the atmosphere - reflect and absorb more radiation to warm up the planet. It's not that hard to understand?
