Pam, using pesticides as a prevenative measure is a bit irresponsible. you can't just ttreat every tree to prevent infestation, as pesiticides are usually non selective (will kill everything) and it would be not economically pheasable. The ALB doesn't respond to pesticides well, and they burrow inside the tree, so the insectidide probably wouldn't even reach the nest where the babies are. I am pretty sure if there wa s quick fix like blanket spraying, the nations's experts would have.
You'll forgive me for being a philistien. But why not just spray the trees with pestacides? Like DDT. Just blanket spray all trees in parks and forests and cemeteries?
And DDT has been banned for some time now.
