@Lucylovessurfin My Sharp Aquos 46'' has seen about 4-5 hours a day of use for the last 3 1/2 years, and it looks just as nice as the day I plugged it in. They say Sharp's backlight is guranteed to last 60,000 hours, if thats the case I have only been through about 6,000 hours of backlight, only 1/10th of that. I always tell everyone wanting to buy a T.V to do their research, if it just came out give it 6 months, multiple sources.

I brought a "Sony Bravia 46" Class 1080p LCD HDTV, KDL-46S504" in 12/2009 (unless than 2yrs) now my TV has a 2 inch black line on the bottom of the TV & it looks like it's getting worst. Very disappointed in Sony TV products. Always brought Sony because of it name. Now I'm going to Samsung. My sister brought 1 & the picture is beautiful & color is so bright!!!!

Sony use to be good many years ago but they suck now and are overpriced. They just had a recall for 1.6 million LCD's for overheating.
Best of luck to any of you with a similar issue - this set is way too expensive to go wrong at 5 years, never mind less than 2 years!

In reality, for a set that costs this much, they should repair for free, no doubts. I feel however for those that could develop this fault at a later point of ownership that may be left out in the long grass to pay and sort the problem themselves...

I was fortunate in that Sony UK agreed to pay for the repair as the TV was less than 2 years old. But it took a fight, many recorded letters, faxes, etc.

Hi all, what I can tell you, is that whatever the issue was, the entire panel had to be replaced - not cheap... If it was something cheap or easy to repair they would not have gone to this level.
