What exactly is a poem?
It's often hard to tell
With all this literature we've got
And most is done so well
But if one stops to contemplate,
The answer's old as time:
A poem is simply not a poem
Unless it tends to rhyme.
...It's just writing.

I despise when Im told that I cant do something
A lot of times Ill do it anyway just to show em
For example, when certain people discover I rap
And say, Son, arent you the wrong color for that?
Or others say, What this sucka know? He aint even black!
So lemme get this straight, yall are giving me flak
For writing poems and reciting em to musical track?
Got a knack for lyrics, but skintones all I lack?
Do you mean Im the wrong color to express myself?
Or utilize a form of art better than everyone else?
I got a talent with words, and Im an educated man
Got a lot to say, so I express it with a pen
But you tellin me that poetry belongs to a race
And I cant participate cause of my color of face?
Whats the basis? Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard,
To say Im the wrong color to write and recite words.

As possible and put em all up in a line
But its nonsense, totally void of all logic
Whereas me, I be rappin on significant topics.
Let me reiterate: just saying words in a verse
Because they rhyme, but dont make sense, man thats the worst
Thing you can do to rap as a poetic form of art
And something of which I never ever wanna be a part
A part of me retracts, I wanna run when I hear it
But I come back just to show em how to write lyrics
I hate ignorant people, but is ignorance bliss?
I doubt it, cause theres a lot those fools gonna miss.

Pay my bills, run my life, and ruin my country
No thanks, Ima stick with the American dream,
Work hard, get ahead, do you know what I mean?
Its that simple, but people feel like theyre entitled
Pathetic theyre apathetic work ethic is vital.
