What's the rationale for the "without walls" formulation? Arguably the "walls" of the home, a private space, have a more isolating and separating effect than those of public spaces like theaters and museums. Aren't CDs, for example, music with EXTRA walls?
McLuhan's comments about schools in the 1950's being spaces of 'detention' rather than 'attention' is fascinating. I wonder what kind of space he would deem the internet to be?--I'm not quite sure whether I feel detained or attentive while online.
