Weren't closed buffet cars and a confusing array of ticket prices just two of the many reasons our neoliberal overlords hived the railways off into private ownership? How's that worked out for us? Still, at least the Derby outpost of a Canadian company recently won the contract to produce some carriages, so mirabile dictu for our engineering brilliance. They should let Hitachi hook up their new HS2 trains to the corpse of Nigel Gresley. At the rate he must be spinning 220mph should be possible.
@1madaboutguitar Yes, true. But don't rule out the globalist scum who would kill their own children to retain what they percieve as their right to rule the rest of us!
@colliecandle I can't imagine many people will be worried about train travel options when their phones, computers, cars, TVs, Radios, and the financial and security systems that go with it all go pop. Face it, the whole of modern society depends entirely on electricity for virtually everything.
Depending on any one thing for so much does make us vulnerable, but does that mean we should not use its amazing potential because one day it might all fail?
@colliecandle What your saying could well happen but it will be more likely courtesy of the sun then a terrorist attack... Unless M15 decides to stage another one to justify another war, that is.
I wonder if ANYONE has thought out what will happen to all these super duper electrics if (G-d forbid) a nuclear EMP was to be generated by terrorist attack. All electrically operated equipment will be renderd USELESS, and that includes ANY vehicle that uses electrical circuits. Far fetched? Impossible ? In this current political global climate I would say not IF but WHEN. The ONLY mass transit vehicle which WILL work unaffected by EMP {Electro magenetic pulse) will be STEAM traction !!
Excellent commentry, impressive engineers, nut case comments.

I'm pretty sure that the narrator is Anthony Valentine and not Robin Ellis.
