D7076 New Maybach 870 Engine First Start Up 16-6-11

Maybach Power unit no. MD 870145 fired up in Hymek D7076 for the first time in a locomotive since 1972!!!!!
The Maybach 655 Western Prince (D1041) engine removed & now been replaced with an original Hymek engine

Late into the night work carried on & just before midnight a success start was made.

Well done to all the Bury Hydraulic group , Tidds,Malc,Matt,Lee etc for a job well done

If all goes well it will be appearing on the East lancs diesel gala 1-3 July 2011

this news took me by complete surprise. its surprising how quickly things can get done in the diesel department once they're started on. i thought this one would be out for much longer, given what happened to the previous 2 engines

Fantastic work, just goes to show what the BHG such as it is today can do when they really pull together, you need to do another start-up vid with the Turbos off in the Daytime now just to show the Clag ;)

Amazing stuff guys, and such a quick turn around from removing the western's old PU to installing the 870. You'd better get the Mek fully fit for the gala because I reckon the loadings behind this beast are going to be heavy!!
