Today's video goes over a well known myth that clearing out the prefetch in your Windows XP system will speed up your computer. In reality, you want to make sure you do not clear the prefetch in your Windows XP system because the prefetch is designed to create an index of files Windows XP deems necessary to store into your system memory. Essentially, it's like the index of a book, when you ask Windows XP to open a program, it grabs the index out of your prefetch so that it can cache the files listed in that index into system memory. In non-geek terms, this is a good thing that actually speeds up your computer, let windows manage it.

  • Every time you turn on your computer, Windows checks to see how this starts and which programs you open frequently, storing this information in small files in the prefetch (Prefetch), and uses it to speed up inicializção, if these files are deleted, the Windws and its programs will take longer to start.

  • If you delete it once and use your pc for a week, so your pc reissues the nessesary prefetcch files for your pc, but only for the programs that you often use, insted of when you initially got your pc (and all that asses baggage), will that help any?

  • in my prefetch is noting.. wht should i do.?

  • Go to your update windows on explorer and click custom not express....In the other updates add the search 4.0.....and now you can search your files so easy....Faster is better

  • I hate to ask, but it's the first question I always need to ask, what graphics card do you have and did you install the latest video drivers for it on XP. It is not an OS issue, I played CS Source on my XP without a hitch, so it's definitely a software or driver issue.

  • well in vista i had problems with the online game and several others like it called Global MU

and in xp my counter strike source lags misrably
