Caveman's Family Found

And a remarkable story has just emerged from Germany. Bones over 3,000 years old were discovered in a cave in the countries mountainous region. And when local residents were tested for DNA for a possible family connection, two local acquaintances emerged from the group showing the were the direct descendants of a cave man from the Bronze age. Lets take a look.

STORY:
Meeting the family takes on a whole new meaning when you discover your ancestors from three thousand years ago.

Especially for two Germans who have found they share ancestry from the Bronze Age.

This museum exhibit shows a cave in central Germany's Harz mountains, where
three-thousand-year-old human bones were discovered.

This archaelogist explains those conditions were perfect for preserving DNA in thousands of bones in the cave:

[Stefan Flint, Archaeologist]:

"We contacted the anthropology institute at the University of Goettingen and took the bones to them. They had the fascinating and impressive result that we could reconstruct people's genetic fingerprints."

Local people were asked to give saliva samples to see if there were any possible family connections.

Manfred Huchthausen learned there was a direct genetic match between him and one of the cave men.

"I couldn't believe that I would belong to the family, as the circumstances are really extraordinary, it's extraordinary luck."

But Manfred isn't alone.

Another local resident, Uwe Lange, was shocked to discover he's another direct descendant of the same cave man:

"It's like the whole world crashes in on you. It is really amazing, and thoughts go through your head which a normal person can't really comprehend."

The two men, who had no idea they were even related, now claim to have the oldest family tree in the world - linked to each other through an ancestor who lived in the region three thousand years ago.
