The American Pit Bull Terrier is not a breed that will fit into any household. Please do your research on the breed before considering owning one - there are many dogs lives that will depend on you, so make your choice wisely. Get to know the breed as much as possible before bringing one into your home and make sure that they will fit your lifestyle. This is a breed that was bred for bull baiting and hog hunting - they are tenacious, intelligent, quick, and have an extremely high pain tolerance. Animal aggression seen in the breed is not because of a genetic evilness, but simply because they have strong terrier instincts. Terriers are a group of dogs that have been bred for centuries to be natural game killers. If you cannot handle that responsibility, or if you cannot handle their extreme strength, energy, and intelligence, please do not choose an American Pit Bull Terrier. Remember that a dog is a 12+ year committement. Once you get a dog, they are your responsibility until death do you part.

@eli45cr Many dog bites go unreported every year. There have been many REPORTED bites from other popular breeds that caused injury or fatality - many didn't make it past the local news station. It is sad the amount of media one bully breed bite can cause, yet many other bites are never heard. Many reported "Pit Bull" bites were also not 'committed' by an actual Pit Bull - many breeds are mistaken as Pit Bulls every day (American Bulldogs, Boxers, Mastiffs, Dogo Argentinos, et cetera).

@MegaSofi77 Many people (yes, even women) use bully breeds (this includes Rottweilers, APBTs, Mastiffs, and so on) as "image dogs." It is a very sad thing to see - very pathetic as well.

If bred, trained, & raised incorrectly yes they can absolutely be unpredictable. This is a breed that is very powerful & requires a lot of stimulation.. w/o daily needs met, they can very well become dangerous. Its up to the people breeding, selling, & handling them to make them ambassadors. A JRT has small teeth & is a breed that bites, lets go, & bites again. A Pit has large teeth & is designed to bite, hold, shake. JRT is still dangerous. Both dogs would be dangerous & should be PTS.

Hey people who are doing this to pitbulls or any other dogs- :if you are doing this to the dogs why don't you go in a cage to fight a real person not just with bare hands but use knifes or something very sharp, you are afraid that you will get seriously injured and it will change your lives forever in a bad way. So think again about what are you doing to dogs which can not really protect themselves becouse people have the biggest power, but DOGS ARE PEOPLE BEST FRIENDS!!

@MegaSofi77 What about their ability to love unconditionally? That would be a good reason to own one if you ask me. I have found that no breed stacks up to pitbull when it comes to that. They dont discriminate against anyone all they know and want is love. And to be quite frank with you I need a dog that can keep up with me. Im really into jogging great distances that most people would think was crazy. But me and my dog do it everyday, I just need a friend with me so I dont get lonely ya know.
