UPDATE: DooMLoRD's zergRush exploit is also one-click and can root ANY Xperia firmware, including MOST v2.3.4 (cannot root build 4.0.2.A.0.62): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mfRA2j1vXg&hd=1

GingerBreak allows you to root your Android v2.3.1, v2.3.2 phone. (It will NOT root Sony's Facebook Inside update v2.3.3 update [June 2011] or the Nexus S's v2.3.4.)

To root the latest Facebook Inside (2.3.3) update, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115542
Video (carrier-branded): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7hUIABNW6c&hd=1

Rooting allows you to install applications that modify the phone:
- BusyBox & Titanium Backup (to remove any application)
XDA Developers - List of safe applications to remove: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047689
- screenshot applications
- AdFree
- install themes, new icons, boot screens, etc.
- etc.

It does NOT make the Market free (seriously, you think Google would have a security hole/bug like this???).
It does NOT de-brand your phone (e.g. remove carrier apps, logo).
Generic flashing video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Keo61Zffh5Q&hd=1
It does NOT unlock your phone (go buy an unlock code): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ1tTrwZCvc&hd=1
Your arc does NOT have to be bootloader unlocked (as of 2011-06, carrier-branded ROMs cannot be bootloader unlocked anyawys.)

You do NOT need a computer. Download the application directly through your browser (link below), install and run it.

You MUST enable USB Debugging before running GingerBreak: Settings / Development / USB Debugging.

Original XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765

NOTE: You MUST have an SD card inserted to perform the root. However, on certain 2.3 phones, GingerBreak WIPES the SD card. Make a backup before running GingerBreak! (On my Rogers Xperia arc, it did not, but this is no guarantee for other carrier's arc's.)

  • @LegendarySSaiyan ... READ THE DESCRIPTION. This video is obsolete.

  • I promise I'll subscribe you if this works on my phone! All the other methods(which needs a PC) are so complicated, and this here is like one-click-root! By the way, do you have unlocked bootloader?

  • @LKodiak As stated in the description, this video is obsolete.
