Theresa Ward is from Statesville, NC. She began attending the afterschool and summer day camp programs at the YMCA of Iredell County as a young child. With her mother working two jobs to make ends meet, the YMCA's "Open Doors" program, which provides financial assistance to those who need it, made it possible for her to attend. At age 12 Theresa was invited to join the YMCA's Leaders Club, which provides leadership training and opportunities for teenagers. She served as a volunteer for six years, until she left for college. Now, eleven years later, Theresa works as an ICU nurse at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She continues to volunteer with the Leaders Club, providing positive support for teens and passing on the leadership skills and passion for volunteering that she developed when she was in the Club. She has a seven-year-old son, Nick, who has followed in his mother's footsteps and joined the YMCA's afterschool program.
