There's a little story behind this lyric. SupposedlyWalter Becker's g/f at the the time loved the Eagles and played their music constantly, which kind of drove Becker nuts, so that's the meaning of the "turn up the Eagles..." in this song. Glen Frey of the Eagles said that on the Hotel California album, the Eagles "returned the favor" by including the line "they stab it with their Steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast." Both sides have acknowledged the references to the other band.
